RippleX Ships XRPL AI Starter Kit v1.1 With Stripe and Tempo MPP Support

RippleX developer teams released Version 1.1 of the XRP Ledger AI Starter Kit on 17 September 2026, adding support for the Machine Payments Protocol (MPP) developed by Stripe and Tempo. According to Coinpedia, the update turns the XRP Ledger into a settlement layer for machine-to-machine payments, allowing AI agents to buy APIs, data and computing services without a human-run checkout.

The protocol flow is payment-request driven. An AI agent asks a service for data or an API, the service replies with a 402 Payment Required message showing the amount due, and the agent approves the payment and receives the service without creating an account or passing through a checkout page.

Two ways agents can pay, and what is still missing

The kit supports two payment patterns. For a one-off purchase an agent can pay with XRP, RLUSD or supported multi-purpose tokens and settle in seconds. For ongoing usage it can open an XRPL payment channel, sign off-chain vouchers against the channel while consuming a service, and settle the total with two on-chain transactions, one to open and one to close.

RippleX Head of Product Jazzi Cooper said the team’s goal is to make XRP and RLUSD first-class options wherever developers are building. Support for IOUs and multi-purpose tokens inside payment channels is being added through XLS-93d, which could let RLUSD-based session payments run through the same system in the future. Coinpedia reported that stablecoin payment channels require a future XRPL upgrade and are not live in this release.

The update also adds support for the Open Wallet Standard, a common interface that lets agents reach wallets across different blockchains without exposing private keys directly. Developers can apply spending limits and approved wallet addresses, giving them more control over how an agent uses funds.

Why it matters

Machine-payable services change the unit economics for AI agents: an agent that can settle a sub-cent charge in seconds can buy small data calls and compute bursts that would be impractical with card rails or subscription plans. Putting XRP and RLUSD in front of those developers also positions the XRPL as a settlement venue rather than just a transfer network, a role it already plays in cross-border payments.

Open Wallet Standard support matters for the same reason. Spending limits and allowlisted addresses are the controls an enterprise needs before it lets an autonomous agent hold keys, and without them many teams will not deploy agents with payment access at all.

What to watch

The starter kit remains in beta with no named users, so the next signal is whether RippleX names launch partners or ships the XRPL upgrade that enables stablecoin payment channels, which would bring RLUSD into session-based agent payments. Ripple added support for the x402 web payment standard in June 2026; MPP is the second machine-payment standard it has embraced.
