World Foundation Raises $52.5M From Pantera Capital to Scale World ID Identity Network
World Foundation has secured $52.5 million through a strategic sale of locked WLD tokens to expand its World ID digital identity infrastructure, the nonprofit announced on July 24. Pantera Capital led the investment round, with participation from Bain Capital Crypto, Eightco Holdings, Selini Capital, Susquehanna Crypto, and other strategic investors. All purchased tokens carry a one-year lockup period and were sold at market prices through a private transaction rather than public exchanges.
Why Proof-of-Human Verification Matters Now

The funding arrives as artificial intelligence adoption accelerates, creating new challenges for online platforms trying to distinguish genuine users from automated systems. World Foundation stated that AI-generated content, bots, and autonomous agents are becoming increasingly sophisticated, driving demand for reliable identity verification methods.

Pantera Capital General Partner Cosmo Jiang said the rapid development of artificial intelligence has strengthened the need for proof-of-human infrastructure. He added that the investment firm continues supporting World’s long-term mission as enterprise adoption expands across global markets.
World ID enables users to verify they are unique individuals through a one-time Orb biometric scan without exposing personal identity information. Users retain their digital credentials on their own devices through privacy-focused cryptographic technology. The network reports more than 39 million registered users, while over 18 million individuals have completed Orb verification. Since launch, users have generated more than 475 million identity proofs across supported applications.

Enterprise Rollout and Regulatory Sector
World Foundation said the new capital will support the rollout of World ID 4.0, an enterprise-focused version designed for large-scale deployments. The updated platform allows developers to build additional identity credentials using zero-knowledge proofs while integrating with the broader World ecosystem. According to the organization, World ID has already been integrated with services including Zoom, DocuSign, Okta, Vercel, and Tinder.
This funding marks another milestone for the organization after raising $135 million through a similar WLD token sale earlier this year. Combined, World Foundation and related entities have now secured roughly $200 million through strategic WLD sales.
Originally co-founded by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, World has continued expanding its identity network worldwide despite increasing regulatory scrutiny. Regulators across multiple jurisdictions have reviewed its biometric verification practices, citing concerns over privacy, user consent, and personal data protection. World Foundation has maintained that its technology protects user privacy through advanced cryptographic methods while supporting secure digital identity verification.
As artificial intelligence adoption accelerates worldwide, the organization believes proof-of-human technology will become increasingly important for online services seeking stronger protection against deepfakes, synthetic identities, and automated fraud. The latest funding round positions World Foundation to scale its infrastructure ahead of what it expects to be growing enterprise demand for trusted digital identity solutions.
