Pi Network Speculation Swirls: Mainnet Date, Token2049, and PayPal Rumors Explained
Pi Network is at the center of renewed market chatter this week, with community analysts pointing to three potential catalysts that could push PI higher. The speculation comes as the token trades around $0.10, recovering from a mid-August dip, though none of the rumored developments have been confirmed by the Pi Core Team or the companies involved.
For a project that has long been shrouded in mystery regarding its mainnet launch, these rumors are drawing attention — but they also carry a warning: unverified claims can move prices in both directions.

Rumor #1: A September 24 Mainnet Announcement

The most prominent rumor circulating in Pi community channels is that the Pi Core Team could make a major mainnet-related announcement on September 24. The date was first floated by Pi community commentator Tien Pi, and has since been amplified by accounts like Rizo (@RizoWeb3) on X (formerly Twitter), who posted on August 20 that “Pi Network could announce its Global Open Mainnet launch on September 24.”
However, there is no official confirmation from the Pi Core Team that September 24 will bring any significant news. The date appears to be based on community speculation rather than an official roadmap. Pi’s mainnet has been in an “Enclosed Mainnet” phase since December 2021, with the Open Mainnet launch repeatedly delayed.

Rumor #2: Token2049 Appearance Could Bring News
Another date on the radar is October 7–8, when the Token2049 conference is scheduled to take place in Singapore. Pi Network is reportedly set to participate, leading some community analysts to speculate that the event could serve as a platform for a major ecosystem or mainnet announcement.
Token2049 has historically been a venue for significant crypto announcements, but there is no confirmed indication that Pi will unveil anything major there. The connection remains speculative, based on community expectations rather than any official statement from the Pi Core Team or event organizers.
Rumor #3: PayPal-PI Integration
A third rumor involves a potential integration with PayPal. Reports within the Pi community claim that PayPal could support Pi through its “Pay with Crypto” program, alongside assets like Bitcoin, Ethereum, Dogecoin, and Solana.
This claim has not been confirmed by PayPal or Pi Network. Community analysts have also noted that PayPal has not appeared in Pi’s KYB (Know Your Business) verification list, which would be a prerequisite for such a partnership. The absence of PayPal from that list is a significant red flag, suggesting the rumor may be unfounded.
PI Price Rebounds Amid Market Volatility
Despite the uncertainty, PI has shown resilience. After starting August around $0.08, it climbed toward $0.10 before pulling back to roughly $0.085. As Bitcoin rallied from around $64,000 to nearly $80,000, PI gained about 14%, moving from $0.086 to almost $0.096 before retreating toward $0.10.
Its market capitalization has again reached approximately $1.15 billion, although PI remains around 96% below its $2.98 all-time high from February 2025. The token’s volatility mirrors the broader crypto market, which has been sensitive to macroeconomic data and Bitcoin’s price action.
Why These Rumors Matter — and Why Caution Is Warranted
Pi Network has one of the largest claimed user bases in crypto, with millions of mobile miners, but its token has limited exchange listings and utility. Any confirmed news about an open mainnet or a major partnership like PayPal would be a significant catalyst, potentially driving demand and legitimacy.
However, the pattern of unconfirmed rumors followed by price spikes and corrections is not new for Pi. In the past, similar speculation around mainnet dates has led to sharp but short-lived rallies. Investors should treat these rumors with skepticism until official announcements are made by the Pi Core Team, PayPal, or other verifiable sources.
For now, the next key dates to watch are September 24 and October 7–8, but without official confirmation, these are just dates on a calendar.
