Ethereum Holds Key $2,370 Breakout, but Weak Volume and ETF Outflows Cloud the Bullish Case

Ethereum price chart showing bullish breakout above $2,370 on a monitor in a trading office

Ethereum is attempting to establish a new bullish cycle after reclaiming a key weekly level, but weak volume and fresh ETF outflows suggest the market is not fully convinced. The second-largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization was trading near $2,380 on September 3, 2026, holding above the $2,370 breakout zone that analysts have flagged as a critical structural threshold.

ETH fell below $2,400 after a macro-driven shock triggered a wave of leveraged long liquidations, but the price has since stabilized. The question now is whether this recovery marks the beginning of a sustained uptrend or a temporary bounce before another leg down.

Ethereum’s Structure Shows Signs of a Shift

The weekly chart reveals a notable change in Ethereum’s long-term structure. After forming major lows around $880, $1,350, and $1,500 over the past two years, ETH has gradually recovered and recently broke above the $2,370 weekly resistance — the first major structural level in this cycle.

Holding above this area is important. If ETH maintains its position, the breakout could strengthen the case for a continued uptrend. However, technical analysts caution that the move lacks a key ingredient: volume.

The On-Balance Volume (OBV) indicator remains well below its previous peak and is still trending downward. This divergence suggests that the recent price recovery has not been accompanied by strong buying pressure, which weakens the conviction behind the breakout.

Open interest also remains elevated at roughly 752,000 contracts, indicating that derivative participation is high. While this can amplify moves in either direction, excessive tap into raises the risk of a sharp pullback if the price fails to hold support.

Mixed Market Data Offers a Constructive but Unconfirmed Picture

Ethereum’s underlying market data is sending mixed signals. Some indicators point to a healthier setup, while others show that fresh demand has not yet returned in force.

  • Exchange reserves have fallen to around 14.92 million ETH, the lowest level of 2026, which could reduce readily available selling supply if demand rises.
  • More than 42 million ETH is currently staked, meaning a substantial portion of the circulating supply is committed to the network.
  • Spot Ethereum ETFs recorded approximately $48.2 million in net outflows on September 2, ending a streak of 12 consecutive sessions of net inflows.
  • Binance’s estimated ETH utilize ratio has declined from around 0.99 in June to 0.647, suggesting the market is less aggressively leveraged than earlier in the cycle.
  • The funding rate remains moderate, indicating that bullish positions still dominate but without extreme optimism.

The combination of falling exchange reserves and controlled utilize provides a constructive backdrop. However, weaker ETF flows and the OBV trend show that institutional and spot buying pressure needs to strengthen before the rally can be confirmed.

What Levels Matter for Ethereum Next

For the bullish setup to remain intact, ETH must hold above the $2,370 to $2,400 zone. A break below this range could trigger another test of lower support levels and invalidate the recent structural breakout.

If Ethereum clears this zone with stronger volume and improving OBV, the next target sits at $3,250, followed by $3,850 if momentum builds. The $4,600 level, which some analysts have floated as a cycle target, remains a bullish scenario rather than a certainty given the current lack of volume confirmation.

Traders and investors should watch whether spot ETF flows turn positive again and whether exchange reserves continue to decline. A return of institutional demand would provide the missing confirmation for Ethereum’s next leg higher.
