The XRP Ledger is repairing its newest lending code before the feature has processed a single loan. Developers published a second amendment, LendingProtocolV1_1, that corrects problems in the original lending code while that original is still sitting in the network’s voting queue, Decrypt reported on October 19, 2026.

The patched amendment arrived with xrpld version 3.4.0, which shipped between September 16 and 17, 2026, according to Cryptobriefing. The documentation for the feature now lists both amendments as requirements, so the network would adopt the repaired code from the outset rather than launch a known-flawed version and fix it afterward.

Key facts

  • LendingProtocolV1_1 shipped inside xrpld 3.4.0, released between September 16-17, 2026, and bundles a separate package called fixCleanup3_4_0, per Cryptobriefing.
  • As of October 18-19, the three lending-related amendments — LendingProtocol, SingleAssetVault and V1_1 — had each collected 19-21 validator votes out of roughly 36 trusted validators.
  • Activation needs about 29 votes, the 80% threshold, and support must stay above that level; slipping below resets the voting period.
  • fixCleanup3_4_0 has reached validator support near the required 80% and is projected to activate on October 23, 2026, Cryptobriefing reported.
  • V1_1 introduces closed-ended vaults with subscription, investment and redemption phases, and moves vault interest accounting to a cash basis.

What the patch changes

The original LendingProtocol amendment enables on-chain, fixed-term loans that carry no collateral, funded from pooled single-asset vaults. Terms are enforced on the ledger, but borrower vetting happens off-chain, and a loan broker posts “first-loss capital” to absorb the first losses from defaults. Issuers keep compliance controls, including the ability to freeze accounts or claw back funds.

According to Cryptobriefing, V1_1 makes two structural adjustments. It creates closed-ended vaults for fixed-term loans, where lenders commit capital during a subscription window, the money is deployed into loans during an investment phase, and it returns during redemption. It also shifts vault accounting so interest is counted only once a borrower actually pays it, instead of being booked when the loan is originated.

The standard route for changes on the XRP Ledger is the amendment process: a feature must win backing from at least 80% of trusted validators over a two-week period before it activates, Decrypt reported. Because the first lending amendment had not cleared that bar, patching it ahead of activation avoids pushing flawed code onto the live network.

Why it matters

The caution follows a recent near-miss. Developers disclosed and fixed a critical bug in the XRP Ledger’s payment engine that could have allowed an attacker to mint counterfeit XRP; Decrypt reported the flaw had sat dormant for roughly a decade before a researcher flagged it. Patching the lending code pre-launch fits that more careful posture.

Lending is part of a wider buildout of credit and DeFi functions on the ledger, which has been adding the financial-market infrastructure Ripple and others have long said it lacked. For validators, the practical consequence is that V1_1 refines the core amendments, so they effectively need to accept the full stack rather than one piece of it. The gap between the lending package’s vote count and the near-threshold support for fixCleanup3_4_0 shows how uneven progress across amendments can be even when they ship in the same release.

What to watch

Watch whether the three lending amendments hold or build past 19-21 votes each toward the roughly 29 needed, and whether a drop below 80% resets the clock. The fixCleanup3_4_0 activation projected for October 23, 2026 is the next concrete validator milestone on the calendar.
