John Wick: Chapter 4 Knocked Down the Box Office Competition

In its opening weekend at the US box office, John Wick: Chapter 4 collected a remarkable USD 73.5 million. As per the reports, the movie worldwide has made a collection of 137.5 million, setting a record for the franchise and wiping out the competition, including Shazam 2, which is still in theatres.

Keanu Reeves, spurred by enthusiastic word-of-mouth and positive reviews, returns to his role as the skilled assassin, making the best start for the franchise. In addition, in all 71 markets, the movie has beefed up its position.

The massive opening of the movie weekend made history in a couple of days. In the last 40 years, the John Wick franchise is among the 9th film series to set a record debut, according to Elzer & Associates.

Since the box office recovered from the Covid-19 pandemic, John Wick: Chapter 4 gets the biggest R-rated weekend opening.

As per the reports, John Wick Chapter 4’s opened at USD 73.5 million, a pretty sizable jump from the other entries opened. While John Wick Chapter 3 opened at USD 56 million, Chapter 2 at USD 30 million, and the original John Wick Chapter at USD 14 million.

If sources are to be believed, the second weekend of Shazam 2’s release only bought in USD 9.7 million, representing a decrease of 69% compared to the film’s initial gross.

In North America, Fury of the Gods has generated around USD 46 million in revenue, which is a far cry from the film’s production expenditures of USD 110 million and its marketing budget of the same magnitude.

The star of Shazam 2, Zachary Levi, has been quoted as saying that Dwyane Johnson prevented a post-credits scene from being filmed in which Shazam and Black Adam would have come together.
