Amazon has reportedly decided to launch a game with its new tool, Alexa Game Control, that is designed in a way that allows gamers to use their natural voice commands. Apparently, they have decided to integrate their voice command technology in Dead Island 2, an upcoming role-playing zombie-filled action game. The game was revealed again in the Opening Night Live event of Gamescom.
Dead Island 2 will be the first game to feature the new control.
With Alexa’s Game Control, it is reported that users will be able to interact and order the Game Control with just their voice. Gamers will be able to switch weapons and interact with Non-Player Characters (NPCs). One of the promoting features of the new tool is that it doesn’t require gamers to use wake words like ‘Alexa’ or any Amazon Echo devices to activate. The new feature is set to work with any console or microphone. After the configuration, users can set it to Push-to-Talk (PTT) or Voice Activity (VA)
Michael Poulter, the spokesperson of Amazon, has confirmed with The Verge that it is not necessary for the gamers to have Amazon Prime membership. Users just need to have an Amazon account to use Alexa Game Control.
Currently, the game will be available in English language in North America. However, the company has promised that it will be made available in more languages and in more countries.
Now, here’s the catch! Users will only be able to use the Game Control only when they are connected to the internet. But this too is optional! It is not required to play the game offline. Poulter said that currently the feature of voice command will only work with PC or Xbox. He also said that their vision is to make the voice command available wherever games are played universally. This indicates that Alexa’s Game Control will come on platforms such as Nintendo Switch and PlayStation.
Dead Island 2 is an upcoming role-playing action game, which is slated to release on 3rd February, 2023. It is the sequel to 2011’s Dead Island and the third installment in the Dead Island series. The game is set after the events of Dead Island and Dead Island: Riptide.
According to an Amazon blog, the game will have voice access for in-game features such as zombie crowd manipulation by saying ‘Hey Zombie’ or to navigate by saying ‘where is the nearest workspace’.
The new game was announced in 2014 and the game is set to release for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Windows, Stadia, Xbox Series X/S, and Xbox One. The game is developed by Deep Silver Dambuster Studios, Sumo Digital, and YAGER.
